What's NewTHE FIRST 100 PAGES3/10/2005
It's taken until book 3 to figure out that I do the same thing everytime I write a novel. I literally need to write the first 100 pages 3 times completely differently to make it work. After that, things tend to fall into place.
THE ENVIOUS MOON, which is in progress, just caused me (the book does it, I swear) to switch it from third to first person, which meant rewriting those 100 pages. That shift is complex, because you move from an authorial perspective to a protagonist perspective and that means changes in voice, distance, and you have to add all that interior richness that you can cheat on a little bit in third person. Well, sometimes.
